WITH news that Baz Luhrmanns The Great Gatsby premieres in New York on May 1, I was pleassantly surprised when I stumbled across these images of Carey Mulligan on Pinterest the other night.

Cast as Gatsbys bewitching obsession, the gamine-like Mulligan captures the spirit of F. Scott Fitzgeralds Daisy Buchanan in this spectacular fashion feature in the May edition of Vogue US.

Celebrated Vogue fashion editor Grace Coddington pays homage to the opulence of the period and transports Mulligan from the pages of Fitzgeralds classic novel to the glossy pages of a more modern world seen through the lens of famed photographer Mario Testino.

Social media has been awash with trailers (below) that take us on a thrilling ride revealing lavish sets, intoxicating music, rich and luxurious costumes, and a hedonistic lifestyle – and I cant wait.

Looking at the these images here I am reminded of Mia Farrow and Robert Redford in the 1974 production of The Great Gatsby, and cant help but wonder what Luhrmann has in store for us. I get a sense that Ill walk away feeling that I was born in the wrong period ... but isnt that what movies are supposed to do? Transport us to another time and allow us to escape into another world?

Anyone for a martini or an old fashioned? Might be time to revisit tunes from Etta Jones, Sarah Vaughan, Lena Horne and Dinah Washington …

Are you a fan of this period? Love the fashion? Would you like to take a turn with Robert Redford or even Leonardo Di Caprio? Are you a fan of Baz Luhrmann and his movies? Would love to hear from you.

* The Great Gatsby opens in Australia on May 30.
