A new season means new trends,
new styles and new shoes

WHAT is about women and their shoes! Not sure about you, but my biggest weakness – and obsession – is shoes! I love shoes!
As a former fashion editor, I used to do the power suit thing and worship at the altar of high heels! But these days, I’m more at home wearing flats. Riding boots, ankle boots, men’s lace-up Oxfords, ballet flats, loafers, sneakers, Birkenstocks, an assortment of leather sandals in various colours, style and finishes, and gorgeous sequinned and embellished slides.
Shoes can also be expensive. But you get what you pay for! As a little girl, I remember my grandmother saying that we spend two thirds of our lives on our feet, so it is really important to wear good quality leather shoes with leather inners, uppers and soles. However, good leather shoes are not cheap – particularly the designer brands I covet!
Fashion is fickle and styles come and go. But fashion is also meant to be fun and shoes are a cost-effective way of updating your look and injecting some fun! Just as the right pair of shoes can make or break an outfit, a simple change of shoes can also take your outfit from day to night. But you don’t have to spend a fortune to look on-trend.
What every woman needs is a collection of quality basic and essential shoes that meets her lifestyle needs. Quality will always outlast quantity, which in time is more cost effective. So always buy the best quality you can afford, particularly for shoes that are timeless and classic in design and style, as these should last for years, not just a single season. That way you get a great return with your cost-per-wear ratio.
But before you hit the shops, look at your shoe collection and create a list of shoes you’ll need for the season ahead – click here to see how it’s done. Once you’ve got the basics covered, throw caution to the wind and indulge in a little whimsy. A new season brings new wants – and needs – so don’t buy anything unless you love them and they make you feel good. And they work with at least three other outfits in your wardrobe!
Now it’s time to put your best foot forward and go shopping!
So, have you written your new season shoe lust list? Would love to know what’s on it. Maybe you’ve already bought some new shoes. Any new brands you’d like to share?
